Celebrate the Magic of the Holidays at Cross Orchards with the Annual Model Train Christmas Show!
The holiday season is coming to life at Cross Orchards Historic Site as the Grand Valley Model Railroad Club hosts its 36th Annual Model Train Christmas Show. This cherished community tradition invites visitors of all ages to experience the nostalgia and joy of model trains, festive decorations, and holiday cheer.

The Model Train Christmas Show is the Grand Valley Model Railroad Club’s annual fundraiser, featuring beautifully crafted train layouts from the days when model trains adorned shop windows during the holidays. Guests enjoy seeing towns strung with miniature Christmas lights, Santa visiting the Hotel Denver, and locomotives adorned with festive wreaths delivering gifts. Proceeds from the event will support general maintenance and improvements to the model train layout each year.
In addition to the stunning model trains, Cross Orchards Historic Site is offering a variety of holiday activities, including:
- Train and Fire Truck Rides: Take in a scenic ride around the orchard, where Santa himself will greet guests near the historic bunkhouse.
- Hot Chocolate and Cookies: Warm up with treats available throughout each weekend.
- Demonstrations: Experience living history in the Bunkhouse, Blacksmith Shop, and Woodshop.
“This event is a true holiday highlight for our western Colorado community,” said Matt Darling, Curator of Cross Orchards Historic Site. “We’re excited to partner with the Grand Valley Model Railroad Club to create a festive atmosphere that’s fun for all ages!”
