35th Annual Excellence in the Media & Newsmaker of the Year Awards Gala

The Press Club of Southeast Texas will honor five finalists for Newsmaker of the Year and reward media professionals who enter the Excellence in the Media contest at the club’s annual scholarship fundraiser on Friday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the MCM Elegante Hotel Beaumont (2355 I-10, Beaumont, TX 77705).
Press Club members select the finalists and the top recipient of the Newsmaker of the Year award, honoring the Southeast Texan who had the most significant positive impact on issues and events during the year 2025. The Press Club consists of more than 200 members, made up of print journalists, television and radio news media, public relations professionals, artists and educators, representing nine counties. This award has been given out every year since 1991.
Our five finalists for Newsmaker of the Year are, in alphabetical order:
• Hetty Brown & Yolanda Avery
• Kai Jai Conner
• Big Rich Courville
• Chuck and Colton Havard
• Dr. Jaime Taylor
The gala program will feature presentation of the Excellence in the Media Awards, selected from hundreds of entries submitted by area professionals in the fields of newspapers, television, radio, magazines, public relations and websites.
The banquet is the major fundraiser for the Press Club Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually to a communication student at Lamar University.
