IMPORTANT UPDATE – 33 PASSES TOURS
To everyone who has already booked for one of our upcoming 33 Passes Adventures, as well as those who are considering joining us, we would like to share an important update regarding the route.
Following the recent heavy rains and flooding experienced across parts of the region, we have received information that a number of the roads, mountain passes and tracks traditionally used on our 33 Passes route have been badly affected. Some sections have sustained significant damage, while others are currently extremely difficult or completely impassable.
For this reason, we are currently reviewing and re-mapping the entire 33 Passes route.
This does not mean that the tour is being cancelled.
It means that we are doing what we have always done at Waypoint Adventures: adapting the adventure to the conditions on the ground.
The 33 Passes Adventure was never designed simply around following a GPX track from beginning to end. It is about the journey, the mountain passes, the spectacular scenery, the lesser-known roads, the challenges, the destinations and, ultimately, the complete overlanding experience.
Our priority is therefore not simply to find a way around a damaged section. We want to make sure that any changes we make still deliver the experience and character that the 33 Passes Adventure is known for.

We are currently gathering the latest information, checking road conditions, identifying affected sections and investigating alternative routes, passes, tracks and waypoints. Where necessary, parts of the existing route will be changed or replaced.
This process takes some time because we don't want to make changes based purely on what a map tells us. Conditions in these areas can change dramatically following flooding, and information from different sources is not always accurate or current.
Those who have already booked do not need to take any action at this stage. Your booking remains in place and preparations for the tour continue as normal.
For those who are considering joining us, the same applies: 33 Passes is going ahead, but the final route may look somewhat different from previous editions.
Once we have completed the re-mapping process and are satisfied with the revised route, we will communicate the changes and provide updated information to everyone concerned.
One thing we can promise: we are not going to remove the adventure from 33 Passes simply because Mother Nature has changed a few of the roads.
We will adapt.
We will find new waypoints.
We will find new roads.
And very often, that is exactly how some of our best routes and greatest adventures are born.
33 Passes is still very much alive – it may just have a few new surprises waiting for us!
Best Regards
Jean

The 33 Passes, Baviaanskloof, and Addo Dream Tour is one of our quintessential adventures, and we're thrilled to embark on our journey through this 7-day Overland Tour. The Western and Eastern Cape's wild heartlands await, where we've been drawn back by the breathtaking landscapes year after year. We'll lead you to extraordinary vantage points, offering sweeping views over vast valleys and stretches of captivating, memorable scenery.
Crafted for those eager to veer off the trodden path, our tour winds along gravel, twee-spoor, and mountain tracks, demanding a 4×4 vehicle, and if you want a compatible off-road camping trailer. We've handpicked campsites known for their rustic charm, all equipped with essential facilities. These include favoured spots we frequent and a handful of hidden, exclusive locales.
Our adventure commences in Wilderness, where friendships form and promises of an unparalleled journey begin. Traversing an incredible route, we'll delve into the Knysna Forest, navigate through Baviaanskloof, and venture along the lesser-known tracks to Addo National Park. Covering roughly 800 kilometres across the Western and Eastern Cape offroad trails, this expedition promises an unforgettable experience.
We'll conquer 33 magnificent mountain passes, meander through verdant forests, and encounter astonishing wildlife. The trek culminates after seven days in Addo, having visited two nature reserves, and soaked in the splendour of nature's artistry. There are numerous secret spots along the way, and we aim to uncover most of them.
The journey is self-catered, and we'll suggest a menu as the departure date nears. However, there are small shops on the route where you can replenish supplies.
Given the tour's immense popularity and the high level of interest it has garnered, we advise you to express your intent to join promptly. Spaces are filling rapidly, and it's an opportunity you won't want to miss. Prepare for an adventure that promises not only to explore the landscape but also to create lasting memories and friendships. Let's set off on this journey together – it's bound to be a fully booked adventure soon!
