About this Event
With the theme of “Working with Asian American Families: Principles and Practices,” this year’s Annual Asian American Mental Health Training Conference brings together four speakers with expertise in working with AAPI individuals and their families. Each speaker identifies as a scientist-education-clinician who will share their experiences, perspectives, and strategies which have been effective in supporting our AAPI clients to gain better treatment outcomes, well-being, and connection with their families and caregivers. The presentations are wide-ranging, and they are intended to address the simple and complex principles impacting the families and the practices they utilize in their clinical settings to facilitate change and improve family relationships. This one-day training conference is designed for mental health professionals and students/trainees, to acquire knowledge and skills to help Asian American consumers and their family members.
Specifically, the conference will enable participants to:
1. Gain knowledge of family focused evidence-based clinical strategies and adapted treatment approaches to improve effectiveness for treating Asian American clients.
2. Increase cultural responsiveness in caring for Asian American clients by exploring the importance and challenges of involving their families.
3. Support the Asian American client to understand intergenerational conflict and how conjoint family therapy can begin with the individual.
4. Understand how individuals who are both Asian American and neurodivergent can be better supported by their families and by the delivery neurodiversity affirming clinical care.
