The spring basin of Royal Spring forms a large pool, approximately 160 feet by 105 feet. The depth varies according to aquifer levels and rainfall, but is generally approximately 42 feet deep.
There is a spring run which flows from Royal Spring into the Suwannee River. The spring run is occasionally dry, and sometimes flows, depending on water levels.
Royal Springs sits in a basin, surrounded by high walls, approximately 25 feet high. The walls are composed of clay and limestone.
Catfish Hotel
Catfish Hotel at Manatee Springs State Park is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 11650 N.W. 115th Street, Chiefland, FL 32626. This dive site has an average rating of 3.62 out of 5 from 16 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 61-70ft/19-21m. The average visibility is 36-40ft/11-12m.
Catfish Hotel is located in Manatee Springs state park, in Chiefland Florida.
This is 3 tiered dive site offering Open Water, Cavern and Full Cave dives with distinct entrances at Catfish Hotel Spring and Exiting at Manatee Spring.
The water is Clear in Catfish Hotel and visibility is about 35-45 feet with high flow from the cave exit.
Schools of Catfish are common and ever present.
Troy Springs
This 70-foot-deep, first-magnitude spring offers opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
Nestled in the shallow water of the spring run are the remains of the Civil War-era steamboat Madison, which was scuttled in 1863 to keep it from being captured.
A hidden gem in north-central Florida, Troy Spring State Park provides restrooms, an accessible walkway, picnic tables and a nature trail.
Only open-water scuba diving is permitted and divers must be certified.
