We are thrilled to make an announcement we’ve been eagerly anticipating for months!
On March 7, 2025, Burke United Methodist Church will proudly present 3:16 — a groundbreaking new opera inspired by the incredible real-life experiences of a United States Army chaplain.

3:16 is not just another opera; it’s a soul-stirring journey of redemption and transformation. The story follows Navy Lieutenant Mary James, a proud and dignified officer haunted by a turbulent past. Her intense anger and guilt are buried deep within, hidden even from her own husband, who knows nothing of the dark secrets she keeps — including the heart-wrenching memory of the child she was forced to give up twelve years ago. But over the course of one unforgettable night, everything in Mary’s life will change as she experiences a miraculous event that brings light, healing, and hope.

The music of 3:16 promises to captivate, drawing you into a world of lush harmonies and the emotional depth reminiscent of the Romantic era, while introducing a breathtaking style that is uniquely its own.
This collaborative masterpiece brings together the talents of some of today’s most celebrated composers:
- renowned opera composer Theodore Christman;
- military veteran and award-winning composer Gary Vincent Koda;
- accomplished mezzo-soprano and composer Vita Koreneva;
- award-winning composer Akihiro Masuda;
- acclaimed orchestral composer Stéphane Tesan; and
- legendary actor Jeff Shankley, who performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and premiered roles in Cats and other iconic musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
