Come and join us for a fun, friendly, family based cycle ride around Hitchin. Riders of all abilities are welcome, although we would recommend a minimum independent rider age of 4 years old (the ride is ~2 miles). Younger children in bike seats/trailers/tag-alongs etc. are of course very welcome! Bikes with stabilisers may be unsuitable due to the cobbled parts of the route.
Adults are responsible for their own children and all Children under 16yrs old are to be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times!
We will meet at the basketball courts at Ransoms Recreation ground in Hitchin (Grove road entrance) at 10:30 on Sunday 17th May 2026 for a prompt start to the ride at 10:45. Ride leaders and marshals will be there to guide the ride, please pay attention to any instructions they may have to ensure the ride stays safe and enjoyable for everyone!
All riders will be asked to provide their details (name, contact info, emergency contact), before the ride starts, as this is a requirement of our insurance.
The ride will end at Walsworth Common, where the annual Walsworth Common festival will be taking place (10am-4pm), with food stalls, live music, and events - we would love to see you there upon completion!
Kidical Mass is a growing worldwide body of people with the same vision - to allow children and young people to be able to safely and independently travel by bicycle wherever they live.
Their motto is "Kids Are Traffic Too" and they're looking for "Space for the next generation".
They spread their vision by arranging local rides for all the family which highlight the demand for improved safe spaces for children to walk, scoot, wheel and cycle in their neighbourhoods.
We want to bring this movement to Hitchin - to highlight that our lovely town needs better cycling infrastructure too!
Anyone can attend a Kidical Mass ride - from 0 to 99 (and beyond!) Bring your family and friends!
