A word from Finley's Mom, Caitlyn Rowe-Frenette...Finley Douglas Guy McGean was born on July 11th, 2021, with a congenital heart defect known as Pulmonary Atresia. Over the next 10 weeks, Finley would undergo five open heart procedures, three surgical lung procedures, and two general surgeries along with countless rounds of bloodwork and transfusions, dialysis, and heart transplant assessment at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
Ultimately, on September 14th, 2021, it was determined that Finley would never be a candidate for a successful transplant.
On September 19th, 2021, at 11:24 pm Finley passed peacefully in his mother’s arms with his father by their side.
As Finley’s mom, I vowed from that moment that I would continue the fight that had started with Finley. Our battle may have ended, but the war is still far from over.
As per the University of Alberta’s website, “In an average year the Stollery Children’s Hospital sees approximately 7,000 children and adults with congenital heart problems, performs 15 to 20 heart transplants, and provides ongoing care for 100 pediatric heart transplant recipients.” This doesn’t account for the services provided by numerous other specialties at the Stollery.
These children and adults come from all corners of Western Canada for treatment, and chances are there is one in your own neighborhood.
This year, we are pleased to bring the Annual Fight with Fin Memorial Dart Tournament to Fort McMurray with all proceeds going to the Pediatric Cardiology Department of the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
