On May 28, 2025, a young man named Christian was killed by a drunk driver in a head in collision at just 26 years old. Christian was truly exceptional — he graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in both Computer Engineering and Journalism, earned the George Washington Carver Scholarship, interned with the Iowa Barnstormers and CarolSports, and was a dedicated member of JROTC in high school.
At Iowa State, he was a journalist for the Iowa State Daily, where he wrote and edited sports stories and recorded podcasts in the studio he absolutely loved.
His mother, Christy, has set up a scholarship in his name — awarded to an Iowa State Daily editor every semester — and funds will also go toward remodeling the podcast room Christian took so much pride in.
They are hosting a Silent Auction on September 12, 2026, and we are reaching out to businesses in the community to ask for donated items or services to be auctioned off in Christian’s honor. Anything at all — a product, a gift card, a service, an experience — every single donation goes directly toward keeping his memory alive and supporting the next generation of journalists.
