No, it’s not a shot of espresso with hot water but it WILL give you a nice buzz. The Americano is a fun, fair and social way to come out and play your first PT tournament. In this format you’ll have a different partner each round until you’ve played shoulder to shoulder with every participant. Each round you play to 16 points - everyone serves 4 times and you get two chances to land each serve. You and your partner keep all the points you win before you go on to the next round with a new teammate.
Example: The final score is 10 to 6 (you won the round). You and your partner each keep 10 points and the other two players keep 6 points. Next round, new partner until you’ve played with everyone.
It’s a no pressure, fun way to meet other paddlers and maybe win some prizes. Wait, there’s prizes? Heck yeah there’s prizes! Prizes for top 3 will be announced closer to the date.
Note: Top 3 winners will not be eligible to compete in any other beginner tournaments.
Who is eligible?
EVERYONE! As long as you aren’t currently ranked (or are currently ranked B2 or below) you can join! We encourage everyone to join the Villages PT club but it’s not required for this tournament so ‘cmon out!
The total number of participants needs to be divisible by 4 so we’re looking to have at least 24 but there’s no upper limit. The length of the tournament is determined by the number of players but usually runs 2-3 hours.
The date is Saturday, September 6th starting at 8am SHARP so don’t be late! You have 1 month left to practice your skills so bring your friends and we’ll see you on the blue courts!
