Several pivotal events took place in the last months of the American Civil War. Some of these incidents have left an enduring legacy on the American experience, from the assassination of Abraham Lincoln to the surrender at Appomattox Court House, and the long journey home for soldiers into an uncertain future. We’ll explore these final watershed months of the Civil War and uncover the people, places and stories behind the beginning of the end. This year’s Pamplin Historical Park Symposium, features a prominent cast of speakers, with decades of knowledge and research who will examine “1865: A Year of Reckoning.”The conference will be held on Friday, October 17 through Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Pamplin Historical Park’s Education Center in Dinwiddie, Virginia and will feature presentations from seven outstanding historians: A. Wilson Greene, Harold Holzer, William Marvel, Dr. George Rable, Dr. Brooks D. Simpson, Dr. Craig Symonds and Dr. Brian Steel Wills.
Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
Park Members pay $339 per person and non-members pay $379. The price includes all lectures, the Friday night reception, two mid-morning coffee breaks, two lunches, and the Saturday night banquet.
