🏆 Tournament Categories (9 Events Total) The 10-day festival features nine different events for various skill levels and ages
:
Team Rapid Events (Aug 28–29): The SMS DEEN Open Rapid Team and Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Junior Under-12 Team events
. Teams must have exactly 4 players, and both events are strictly limited to the first 50 paid teams
.
Blitz Tournaments (Aug 29 & Sep 6): Lightning-fast 3 minute + 2 second increment chess for the Merdeka Blitz and the Festival Blitz
.
Youth & Age-Group Rapids (Aug 30 & Sep 3): Single-day individual rapid tournaments for various age brackets (Under-6 up to Under-18)
. These events are capped at 200 entries
.
Standard Classical Opens (Aug 31–Sep 6): Three 9-round classical tournaments:
21st Dato Arthur Tan Open: The premier open event
.
Daniel Yong Chen-I Memorial: Restricted to players rated below FIDE 2000
.
Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Seniors’ Open: For players aged 50 and above (women 45 and above)
.
⚠️ Key Registration Rules & Deadlines
FIDE ID Required: Players without a valid FIDE ID number will not be accepted into the tournaments
.
Registration Deadline: Entries strictly close on August 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM
. Late entries will incur surcharges or double fees, and there are absolutely no refunds once registered
.
Early Bird Discount: Players participating in the Standard Opens (Events 5, 6, and 7) can get a 10% discount on their entry fee if paid before August 1, 2026
.
