Since 2008, the Southern California Slack Key Festival has grown into the largest Hawaiian music concert event on the mainland U.S. — a gathering that brings together the most respected voices in Hawaiian music and hula today. Each year, artists whose songs carry family, history, and place take the stage, sharing music that is as intimate as it is powerful.
The festival takes its name from kihoʻalu, the traditional finger-picking style of guitar indigenous to Hawaiʻi — a sound many recognize from the Grammy-nominated soundtrack of The Descendants. Gentle, melodic, and deeply expressive, slack key guitar reflects the rhythms of island life and the stories passed down through generations.
