The Rockford Fire Department will be hosting the 20th Annual 911 Run on Saturday, June 1st, 2024. The 3K race (just shy of 2 miles) will begin at 9:11 a.m. at Fire Station 5, located at 391 N. Trainer Road in Rockford. This event is a fundraiser for local fire prevention efforts and Camp I Am Me, by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, for children who are burn survivors.
The Rockford Fire Department Division of Fire Prevention conducts public education events, smoke and carbon monoxide detector installations, school visits and other programs to the community free of charge. The proceeds from this event will help offset the cost of supplies that are distributed to the residents of Rockford to help educate and make our community safer.
Camp I Am Me is staffed by many volunteers that include doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers who help ensure that any special needs that result from their burn injuries can be attended to. The campers are able to participate in several activities such as boating, archery, rock climbing and other outdoor experiences that provide them the opportunity to build self-esteem and self-confidence.
All finishers will receive a medal recognizing both their athletic accomplishment and support for the cause of fire prevention. The top three finishers in each of the many age groups will be awarded a challenge coin as well. Additionally, the top three overall finishers from the women and men will win a gift card for their efforts. There will also be a shorter kids’ race free of charge for youngsters who would like to participate, but are not quite old enough to run the full distance.
Come on out and experience this unique and family friendly event and see the fire trucks, Sparky, and enjoy some tasty Mission BBQ food at the end of the race.
