About this Event
Join the Feather River Center (the Oroville based nonprofit dedicated to providing aquatic and environmental education to the youth of Butte County) for an exciting kayak adventure with your friends and family, ending at the annual Wildflower & Nature Festival at Riverbend Park. Prior experience and kayaking skills are recommended, but not required.
Two trips will be hosted, 10:00am & 1:00pm.
Meeting Point:
Both trips begin and end at the Riverbend Park boat ramp. Located at 50 Montgomery St, Oroville, CA 95965.
We recommend that you park your vehicle as close to the meeting point as possible.
Complimentary Shuttle Service to the Launch Site
The shuttle departs the Riverbend Park boat ramp at 10:00am & 1:00pm, and brings you to our launch site at the Feather River Fish Hatchery (beneath the historic green bridge). Each trip (including shuttle) is 2-2.5 hours long.
The Feather River Center provides all required equipment for this adventure: life jackets, kayaks, paddles, and first aid equipment. Note: a limited number of two-seater kayaks (tandem) are available. Select the option for tandem during checkout to reserve yours (while supplies last).
Rain or Weather Cancellation:
In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather, the Feather River Center will notify you no later than 24 hours prior to the trip; refunds will be provided.
What to Bring and Reminders:
Pants/shorts and shirt of wicking material (such as quick-drying nylon, polyester, or other synthetic fabric), and insulating layers and accessories like hats, beanies, headbands, etc. Be sure to avoid cotton in all layers. Clothing can and will get wet. Click here for REI's article, "What to Wear Kayaking."
- Kayaking is a water activity, stepping in shin deep water is required.
- Our river kayaks are self draining, this means the kayak seat will be wet.
- Warm clothes to change into afterward.
- Water shoes or solid sandals for water and shore travel. Sandals must have heel strap, flip flops and bare feet not allowed.
- Water bottle and light snacks.
- Waterproof cellphone case, dry-bag, or zip lock bag for cell phone, keys, etc.
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses).
Optional Items:
Camera, phone, binoculars. Please remember, these items do not float. A tether or cord is recommended. The Feather River Center is not responsible for lost items - and due to the river current we will be unable to stop and retrieve sunk items.
*Safety instructions will be given and liability waivers must be signed prior to launch.
