About this Event
What: We the People (WTP) Summit: Community-Systems Conversation is part of U-turn Youth Consulting’s Courageous Conversation Series. In recent months, we have witnessed the uncertainty surrounding the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS). While much of the public has focused on legal and political implications, there is a vulnerable population whose experience has not been highlighted: the children and families who would bear the long-term effects.
The Summit will explore how family separation and prolonged uncertainty affect children welfare and the broader family unit
This event will engage the audience, promote dialogue about reform, and provide tools and resources to assist professionals in navigating the current environment. U-turn has traditionally focused on the backgrounds of youth and families. In 2021, it became clear that understanding these backgrounds requires an examination of the systems responsible for serving them. Therefore, this summit is relevant and necessary. Our speakers and panelists are experts in their fields and will bring extensive knowledge and skills.
Who: The primary target population for this Summit includes social service providers, educators, law enforcement personnel, mental health providers, faith-based leaders, community members at large, and college students majoring in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Social Work. Participants will gain valuable insights from the candid discussions that will take place throughout the summit.
When: Friday, April 24, 2026, 9am-2pm (8:30am Registration)
Where: St. Thomas University 16401 NW 37th Avenue, Miami Gardens, FL 33054
Why: This summit aims to promote both courageous and honest conversations about reform, and to begin a paradigm shift moving away from a sympathetic approach and instead moving towards an empathetic/lived experience approach. Only through courageous conversations and dialogues can real change emerge.
