Waukegan Community Unit School District #60’s annual district-wide celebration of Black History Month is back with an exciting new theme this year as part of this year’s centennial observance of Black History Month.
The free event will be held on Thursday, February 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St. The theme of this year’s event is A Century of Black History Month Commemorations.
Join the District’s Family and Community Engagement team for an unforgettable Gala commemorating 100 years of Black History Month celebrations, honoring the legacy, achievements, and future of Black excellence. This family-friendly evening will feature dynamic presentation displays created by school district students, showcasing their voices, creativity, and perspectives on Black history and culture.
During the event, distinguished alumni will be recognized with special awards celebrating their impact and accomplishments.
Guests will also enjoy performances, food, and entertainment for all ages as we come together to reflect, celebrate, and continue the tradition of honoring Black history past, present, and future.

La celebración anual del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana en todo el Distrito Escolar 60 de la Unidad Comunitaria de Waukegan vuelve este año con un nuevo y emocionante tema como parte de la conmemoración del centenario del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana.
El evento gratuito se realizará el jueves 5 de febrero, de 5 p.m. a 8 p.m., en el Teatro Genesee, 203 N. Genesee St. El tema del evento de este año es “Un Siglo de Conmemoraciones del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana”.
Únase al equipo de Participación Familiar y Comunitaria del Distrito para una gala inolvidable que conmemora los 100 años de celebraciones del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana, en honor al legado, los logros y el futuro de la excelencia afroamericana. Esta velada familiar contará con presentaciones dinámicas creadas por los estudiantes del distrito escolar, en las que mostrarán sus opiniones, creatividad y perspectivas sobre la historia y la cultura Afroamericana.
Durante el evento, se reconocerá a distinguidos ex alumnos con premios especiales que celebran su impacto y sus logros.
Los invitados también disfrutarán de actuaciones, comida y entretenimiento para todas las edades, al reunirnos para reflexionar, celebrar y continuar la tradición de honrar la historia Afroamericana del pasado, el presente y el futuro.
