Join us for our 2026 Third Quarter Meeting featuring a special presentation by Dr. Andy Masich, President and CEO of the Heinz History Center.
Date: Sunday, September 13, 2026Time: 11:30 AMLocation: Edgeworth Club
Program Topic:“The David McCullough Archives and History Matters: Preserving the Legacy of America’s Beloved Historian”
Dr. Masich will share insights into the remarkable collection of the David McCullough Archives and McCullough’s posthumous publication, History Matters — a collection of essays, speeches, interviews, and personal reflections that celebrate his lifelong dedication to preserving the American story.
A Pittsburgh native from Point Breeze, David McCullough was not only one of America’s most celebrated historians, but also a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution. His lifelong commitment to telling the story of our nation’s founding ideals reflected the same spirit of remembrance and service shared by generations of SAR members.
Over a distinguished five-decade career, McCullough brought history to life through his acclaimed biographies, historical works, and narrations. He became one of America’s most beloved historians, earning two Pulitzer Prizes and numerous honors before his passing in 2022 at the age of 89.
A visionary leader and longtime supporter of the Heinz History Center, McCullough played a significant role in shaping the institution’s future, including its relocation from Oakland to the Strip District in 1996.
Highlights of the David McCullough Archive include:
• The Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded to McCullough in 2006• His Pulitzer Prize-winning works, including original manuscripts and materials from Truman (1993) and John Adams (2002)• The Royal Standard upright typewriter on which McCullough wrote many of his celebrated works• Manuscripts and proofs from his first book, The Johnstown Flood (1968)• Correspondence with presidents, government leaders, artists, writers, and other notable figures• Photographs, personal artifacts, family materials, and additional treasures from his life and career
We look forward to gathering in fellowship and honoring the enduring legacy of David McCullough — historian, storyteller, Pittsburgh native, and fellow member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
