Team Colorado Whitewater Racing invites you to the 2026 Halloween Howler... our annual Halloween slalom race at the Salida Whitewater Park! Bring your slalom boats, your Halloween tricks and treats, and your funniest, most creative and entertaining costumes.
This beginner-friendly canoe/kayak slalom race is open to all skill levels, no racing experience needed. Composite and plastic boats are welcome, and the event is designed to be fun and low-pressure. It’s a great environment for kids and families to enjoy the river, try the gates, and cheer each other on.
There are no costume constraints, other than your own good judgement. Aim to be wildly creative within your ability to paddle and self-rescue. You've had a whole year to plan- let's see what the 2026 Howler will bring!
Your first two runs will be raced in a normal race format, in normal racing attire. Save your costumes for the third run, where you will race down the whitewater park in all your costumed glory. Top three costumes of the race win prizes!
The whitewater park will be open for training all weekend- we'd love to see multiple workouts going on through the weekend.
