Take your next adventure off the beaten path at the Shawnee Mission Park Adventure Race! Explore hundreds of acres of nature, hiking and biking trails, and preserved prairie grasslands along the Mill Creek Streamway Park, home to over 17 miles of paved trails from the Kansas River to Olathe and designated a National Recreation Trail in 2010.
The race will happen rain or shine, so come prepared for any type of weather!
Race Options & Start Times
6-Hour Race – Trek, Bike & Paddle
• Start: 7:00 AM
• Teams navigate with pre-plotted topographic maps provided at check-in
• Trekking, biking (single track & paved), and paddling on the lake
• Approximate distances: 20+ miles biking, 10 miles hiking, 1–2 miles paddling
• Mandatory transition checkpoints, but most are optional—choose your strategy!
• Access to only what you carry: food, water, gear, and first aid
• Boats, paddles, and life jackets provided
2-Hour Race – All Foot
• Start: 9:00 AM
• Open to solos or teams
• Trek to all checkpoints and encounter a few extra challenges along the way
• Course is beginner-friendly but may include brush, trees, and water
• Expect 6–8 miles of trekking on both paved and off-trail terrain
Check-In
• Opens: 5:00 AM
• Closes when each race begins
• Maps distributed at check-in on race morning
• This is a self-supported event – carry what you need for the race
Additional Info
• Minimal travel rules – you choose your route between checkpoints
• Teams must understand basic terrain features and distance measurement for navigation
