About this Event

You’re invited to our annual Seed Share on Saturday, March 7th, from 10am-1pm in the basement of St. Luke’s Church in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore City.

This is not a ticketed event! Bring your family! Bring some friends! Free Seeds For All!!

Venue and event info: The public portion of the seed share is from 10am-1pm on March 7th, 2026. Come and go as you like. Rain or shine. We will start packing up at 1pm sharp. We will gather in the basement event hall of St. Luke’s church in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore City. The address is 800 W. 36th St, Baltimore MD 21221. We are in an open church basement event hall that is down a flight of steps with no elevator access. You can enter the basement through the main church entrance thru the courtyard on 36th St. or thru the side door on Chestnut Ave. It is a large room with some ventilation to the outside and restrooms on site.

There is metered parking close by, but if you drive around you can find free parking in the neighborhood within a couple block walk. Most of the spots are parallel parking and back-in parking. Hampden is a tourist destination, so please give yourself ample time to find parking. St. Luke’s Church is on the 21 and 94 bus lines, stop is at 36th and Chestnut.

Please be aware that sometimes there are long lines to look through the free seeds. Leave plenty of time, wear comfortable shoes, and mentally and physically prepare for standing in line.

FAQs:

I’ve never been to a seed share! What do I do? Welcome! There is no really wrong way to do it! There will be multiple tables of folks with seeds - you just walk around and look and talk to folks, or don’t talk to folks, kinda like a farmers market with items for free or trade. If you have seeds to swap you can offer them. If you don’t have seeds to swap see FAQ below.

Do I need to bring seeds to swap? What if I don’t have any? You do not need to bring any seeds! The Baltimore Seed Commons will be there at the seed swap with boxes of free seeds. The Baltimore Seed Commons asks that you only take the amount of seeds that you yourself will plant for the upcoming year. The Baltimore Seed Commons provides seeds to individuals, not to groups or organizations, with a focus on city residents and surrounding neighbors. The Baltimore Seed Commons does not mail seeds.

I have sooooo many seeds! How do I do this in a big way!! We have some amazing seedkeepers and plant people in Baltimore! If you’re one of them and you have baskets and boxes of seeds and sundries to share, please come during the set up time from 9:00-10am before we officially open to the public at 10am. There are plenty of tables but limited space. If you want a table, they are on a first come first serve basis, so come early.

Pro tips include: prepackaging your seeds into individual packets. In our experience, people take smaller packets more readily than digging into large jars of seeds and doing it themselves. But you can still bring your large jars of seeds! Also consider making a simple sign that has your ISO seeds (in search of). Say you’re trying to build an herbal tea garden or looking for exotic tomatoes, it makes it easier for folks to swap with you if they know what you’re looking for.

The Baltimore Seed Commons will accept your donated seeds and will help distribute them for you. These can be homegrown or commercial seeds. They can be old seeds. If they’re in bulk quantity, we will break them down into smaller packs for you. There will be a seed donation basket on the Baltimore Seed Commons table.

Can I vend? This is a trade/barter/giveaway mutual aid event. We will not be policing people’s stuff, but we please ask that if you bring things other than seeds, that they are donation-based, barters, or giveaways.

Should I bring things other than seeds? Are they seed/gardening/herbs adjacent? Then sure. Folks have brought cuttings, seedlings, kombucha starters, dried herbs, teas, and the like. Please take home your extras. The Baltimore Seed Commons will accept your extra seeds, but your extra stuff should go home with you.

Should I bring my kids? Definitely yes! Kids are the most important part of community! We will have a kids zone (dependent on volunteer capacity this year tbh) for kiddos supervised by their grownups with various seed and planty crafts and activities.

Keep your fur children (dogs) at home, except for service animals.

Is this only for Baltimore City residents? No, we will not be checking IDs ;)
