Info: Lunch break from 12-1PM. Lunch on own. Description: Are you prepared for providing emergency care in a Disaster or Wilderness setting? Do you spend time in the backcountry? Come join us for a class that will take you beyond the EMT or Paramedic course you attended and prepare you to provide medical care with a minimum of equipment while in the disaster or wilderness setting. From wound care to medical emergencies, we will cover many common problems that occur in the disaster and backcountry settings. This class will provide you with some great information on how treat patients with the limited resources and equipment. The Disaster and Wilderness Medicine for EMS class will involve spending time outdoors and some physical activity, so come prepared. Join us if you want to learn about disaster and backcountry medicine and are willing to have fun.

Pediatric International Trauma Life Support (ITLS-PEDS)

This 8 hour course teaches proper assessment, stabilization, and packaging of pediatric trauma patients while also covering effective communication techniques for interacting with young patients and their parents. Hands on skill stations reinforce critical interventions such as airway management, chest decompression, fluid resuscitation, spine care, and comprehensive patient assessment. By the end of the course, students will be able to rapidly size up a scene, determine when to perform a rapid survey versus a focused exam, complete an initial pediatric trauma assessment, understand how shock presents differently in children compared to adults, and identify, describe, and treat closed head injuries in pediatric trauma patients.
