About this Event

A garden stroll in the early summer is a delight – it’s even better when joined by friends and family, and with gardens staffed with knowledgeable gardeners. This event is co-hosted by the Rochester Garden Club and The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, showcasing gorgeous, private and public gardens in the greater Rochester area. Tour at your own pace.

Museum and Private Gardens will be open 10am- 5pm. You will exchange your ticket for a garden guide the week of the event. The garden guide has a map of gardens, as well as discounts to some of your favorite local businesses!

We hold the Garden Walk rain or shine, no refunds, and we will hope for a shining day every year! Day of event tickets are $20 and only sold in person at the Museum.

ALL GUESTS MUST:

Visit the museum to exchange their tickets purchased on Eventbrite and other physical locations for a Garden Guide with Map. The map is not given out in any further advance out of respect to individual garden owners.

You may exchange your tickets on the following dates/times at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, 1005 Van Hoosen Rd:

  • June `15-17 from 1 - 4pm
  • June 18 from 10am - 2pm

Why must I exchange my Garden Walk Ticket for a Garden Guide if I purchase my ticket before June 18?

  • Garden locations are not shared earlier to protect the privacy of our gardeners and to avoid complications arising from last-minute changes.

Are restrooms available?

  • There are public restrooms at The Museum. Please do not ask to use restrooms at our private gardens.

What shoes should I wear? How much walking is involved?

  • Closed toe sneakers are encouraged. This is a popular event, and at times parking may be a distance from individual gardens. Gardens may have uneven ground, artistic staircases, and even mud depending on the weather.

Are rain checks available?

  • The Garden Walk is a rain or shine event. No rain checks are issued. No refunds. Please dress according to weather conditions.

Do children need their own tickets?

  • Children 14 and under do not need tickets. Please be aware that some garden terrain may be uneven and require care when walking. Children should remain under parental control.

Are dogs allowed?

  • Dogs are not allowed at any private garden.

Will beverages and refreshments be available?

  • There is a Cookie Room at the Museum during the Walk hours, where cookies and lemonade will be available. Otherwise, walkers will need to provide their own refreshments. There are many excellent restaurants in the area.

Will there be vendors at The Museum this year?

  • The Rochester Garden Club will share a Fleatique type area with gently used garden and home items for sale at excellent prices. East Michigan Native Plants will supply the native plants on sale. Pre-orders can be picked up at this time.

Is it possible to preorder native plants for pick up on the day of the Walk?

  • Preorders are possible. The selection of plants can be viewed at EastMichiganNativePlants.com. Use this link to access the plant catalog and order form
  • Checks to Rochester Garden Club or Credit Cards will be accepted.

Will plants also be available to purchase the day of the Walk?

  • Native plants will be available at The Museum from 9:30am to 3pm. You do NOT have to purchase a garden walk ticket to purchase native plants. Cash, checks to Rochester Garden Club or credit cards will be accepted.

Can I leave my plants at The Museum while on the Walk?

  • Plant purchases can be labeled with purchaser’s name and cell phone number and will be held in a safe location for pick up no later than 4:00pm on the day of the Walk.

Will there be an educational program in the Calf Barn at the Museum?

  • Yes! Check back soon for official speaker announcement!

Who do I contact about the possibility of sharing my garden, or a friend’s garden on a future Rochester Garden Walk?

  • Signup sheets will be available at each garden or contact us via our website, RochesterGardenClub.org. Please include address as well as name and phone number, if possible.

Who benefits from the purchase of GW tickets?

  • The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm and Rochester Garden Club partner in providing the Walk. Each uses funds raised to provide opportunities for the Rochester Community. Both appreciate your support by purchasing tickets and are especially grateful to our homeowners for allowing so many to experience all of the wonderful gardens in this very special community!
