THE ORGANIZER
The Netherlands American Studies Association (NASA) is a network of scholars, researchers, and students interested in the history, culture, and politics of the United States. NASA promotes the interdisciplinary study of the United States through conferences, seminars, publications, grants, and other activities.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
American Protest Cultures is the 2026 Annual Conference of the Netherlands American Studies Association (NASA), hosted by Radboud University in Nijmegen from November 4 to 6.
From abolition, suffrage, conscientious objection, and labor activism to Black Lives Matter, climate justice, Indigenous sovereignty, and digital campaigns, protest has played a central role in American political and cultural life. This three-day conference asks how movements create meaning and mobilize feeling; how dissent shapes political identities and communities; how protest crosses national borders; and how art, music, satire, performance, media, and embodied action sustain movements and influence their legacies.
More than 70 speakers from a wide range of disciplines will take part, including history, literature, political science, sociology, media studies, art history, cultural studies, gender studies, environmental humanities, Indigenous studies, and performance studies. Panels will examine protest in the United States and its connections with Canada, Mexico, and wider transnational contexts.

REGISTRATION
General registration costs €50, plus the Eventbrite service charge, and includes an annual NASA membership.
Current NASA members and students may attend free of charge. Registration is nevertheless required.
All accepted speakers and chairs must also register and select the ticket corresponding to their status.
The registration covers the full academic conference, including all conference panels and keynote lectures. It does not include separately ticketed events that may form part of the wider Woodstock aan de Waal festival.
