2026 Key West Lionfish Derby
About this Event
Lionfish are a non native and invasive species in the Florida Keys and have exploded in numbers in recent years. In an effort to control the population of these predators and help the reef adapt we are proud to host an annual Lionfish Derby in Key West, FL. Bringing divers together from across the state we hope to bring attention to the problem and remove as many Lionfish as possible, plus have a great time. Our Derby is focused on safe and sustainable fishing practices to help our coral reef ecosystem thrive.
We welcome participants of all skill levels and backgrounds to join us for a weekend of fun and excitement as we roundup as many of the venomous Lionfish as we can.
This year we are partnering with Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF), so part of every registration fee and sponsor donations will make a tax deductible contribution to CRF. CRF member will be at the Docks to help provide additional information about their projects on going in the Keys and how to get further involved.
Each team will be 2, 3, or 4 members working together to remove lionfish from our local reefs. Stay tuned for participating local Dive Centers who have boat spots available if you do not have your own boat. The Captain’s meeting will take place Friday July 17th at Finz Dive Center. The Awards will be held on Saturday July 18th after the derby at the Dock’s Restaurant & Raw Bar at 6PM – 9PM.This year there will be GUARANTEED CASH PRIZES for the following categories:
