CLINIC - 1
Topic: “Using AI-Powered Application to Analyze Medical Device Risk from Defect Images”
Presented by: Jerry Xiao
SYNOPSIS:
The cost of quality consists of prevention, appraisal, and failure costs, accounts for up to 25% of sales for some firms and can reach 40% to 50% in certain cases. The popular defect detection methods often fall short: manual inspections are prone to human errors and inconsistent result in missed or misclassified defects. While automated inspection systems often rely on predefined specifications, defect libraries, and fixed checkpoints which require substantial upfront investments. Existing large language model solutions, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, are not deliver reliable and accurate defect detection since their models are designed for general purpose tasks.
The DefectAI platform bridges this gap by enabling users to train and fine-tune AI models on their own image-text datasets. It allows you to capture product images through devices like smartphones, tablets, desktops, or robot camera. Users can capture product images using common devices—smartphones, tablets, desktops, or robotic cameras. The system detects a wide range of defects, including surface flaws, out-of-spec conditions, foreign materials, misassemblies, and labeling errors, across all stages: incoming inspection, in-process production, finished goods, and packaging.
Beyond detection, the platform supports comprehensive defect management—facilitating root cause analysis, defect disposition, and structured risk assessments (including hazard identification, hazardous situations, harm analysis, and severity classification). It also integrates seamlessly with risk documentation systems to support regulatory and quality compliance.
