Speaker Session 1C - Building Number Sense First
Host: Jan Schulte
Info: Frustrated with math? Before you switch curricula, check for this missing foundation. Number sense—the deep understanding of how numbers work—is rarely taught explicitly, yet it's essential for math success. Without it, children memorize without understanding and struggle increasingly as math gets harder. Learn how to identify number sense gaps in your K-8 student through simple observations (like subitizing skills), see what to watch for during game-based learning, and discover practical activities using everyday materials (cards, dice, coins) that build real mathematical thinking. Leave with free resources and a clear understanding of what your child actually needs to succeed in math.
