2026 Doors Open Day - The Scotch Whisky Experience
About this Event
Since 1988 we have been telling the whole story of Scotch whisky with a fascinating and sympathetic conversion of the building and have created a fully accessible experience for guided whisky tours, private group dining and house the well-loved Amber restaurant, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
This is your chance to see how the building has transitioned over time, from educating the Old Town’s children, to now educating the world about Scotland’s national drink!
Hidden on the peaceful top floor, away from the hustle and bustle of The Royal Mile, you’ll also see the Millenium Stained Glass Window - a wonderful homage to the past, present and future of Scotch whisky, by stained glass artist, Shona McInnes – together with bespoke installations created from the whisky materials of copper, oak and glass crafted by Scottish artisans and artists.
The visit ends in the “Whisky Bonds”, once the school’s covered playground, with access to the adjacent Janitor’s House on Johnstone Terrace.
Please note: The Silver Tour lasts 50 minutes and we expect the finish time to be around 11am at the latest.
