More about this event series

Racism affects our community and every person’s quality of life. It shows up in inequalities between groups and in tensions among people from different ethnic backgrounds. To strengthen our communities and to build a more open-hearted country, we need to face racism head-on. In a democracy, there must be ways for everyone to have a voice in finding the solutions.

  • A safe space to talk frankly, listen deeply, and learn from each other.
  • Trained facilitators guide discussions on the history, causes, and impact of racism — and ways to end it.
  • Real change happens when we listen to each other’s stories.
  • Lasting friendships often begin in DTER sessions.

Now, more than ever, we need to listen to each other, break down the walls between us, and channel our emotions into meaningful and sustainable actions and relationships.

DTER is in its 7th year and is a program of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice which has been educating and motivating for 10 years.

  • Meeting Saturdays; March 14, 21, 28 and April 11, 18, 25.
  • Registrants are asked to commit to attending all 6 sessions.
  • Note— no meeting the weekend of religious holidays.
  • Facilitators: Joe Lawson & Sharon Bernstein

Your Facilitators will be Sharon Bernstein and Joe Lawson.

In her history as a hair stylist and as a psychotherapist, Sharon heard the good, the bad, and even the ugly. In DTER, she strives to create a safe environment for honest dialogue as participants from varied backgrounds and experiences work towards ending racism. Sharon is in her 6th year of facilitating for DTER.

Joe is a retired businessman and life-long human rights activist. He currently serves as Executive Director of Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice. This is Joe’s 7th year volunteering as a DTER Facilitator.
