Interested in medical school? Curious about what family physicians really do? Destination: Family Medicine gives high school students an exciting opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the diverse world of family medicine and primary care firsthand. 🥼🏥
Created for students in Grades 9–12, this immersive, in-person event combines hands-on workshops, clinical demonstrations, real-world case studies, critical-thinking exercises and opportunities to learn directly from physicians and residents.
With more than 20 unique experiences available, students can create a personalized schedule reflecting their interests and aspirations. Sessions may explore:
🚑 Emergency medicine skills and procedures
🧠 Pediatric mental health
💉 Joint injections and surgical procedures
🏃 Sports medicine
👩⚕️ Women’s health
🩹 Rashes and dermatology
🫶 Palliative care
🏥 Hospitalist medicine
🌈 Gender-affirming care
🥽 Virtual reality in medicine
🎖️ Military medicine
💙 Public health, mentorship, anaesthesia and much more!
Students will also have opportunities to meet peers who share their interests, ask questions about careers in medicine and discover the many ways family physicians make a difference in their communities. 🌎🤝

🎓 Open to students in Grades 9–12
💵 Registration: $200 + HST
Registration includes:
✅ A full day of interactive programming
✅ Lunch and refreshment breaks
✅ A branded University of Ottawa bag
✅ An event T-shirt
✅ A working stethoscope for each student 🩺
Please note that transportation is not included. Students and families are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the event.

💙 BURSARY APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN 💙
We want Destination: Family Medicine to be an inclusive and accessible experience. A limited number of bursaries are available for students who may face financial hardship, geographic distance, cultural or political barriers, limited access to similar opportunities, or other challenges that could prevent them from attending.
Students selected through the bursary process will be known as “Principal’s Delegates.” Their full $200 + HST registration fee will be waived, and they will receive the same programming and be fully integrated into the event alongside every other student.
All information shared in the bursary application will remain confidential and will be used solely to select bursary recipients.
⏳ Bursary application deadline: September 11, 2026
📩 Selected students will be notified by September 25, 2026.
Please note that bursaries are limited and submitting an application does not guarantee a place in the program.
