CTDO MatchPlay Returns Sunday — Open to Everyone, With a New Twist
The 2026 CTDO MatchPlay returns next Sunday at TCB Sports Bar, and the event is open to all players.
You do not need to be in the Top 16 of the CTDO Order of Merit to enter.
The Order of Merit is used only for seeding, with the 16 highest-ranked participating players seeded into the draw. Everyone else enters the same single-elimination field with the same opportunity to make a run at the title.
This year’s MatchPlay will also feature a new rule that could dramatically change how close matches are decided.
Play begins at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 11, with entry reduced from $40 to $30.
The format will progress through longer matches as the field narrows:
- Round of 32 — Best of 9
- Round of 16 — Best of 11
- Quarterfinals — Best of 11
- Semifinals — Best of 13
- Final — Best of 13
All matches will be played 501, Single In / Double Out, with a PDC cork to determine the opening throw before starts alternate throughout.
New for 2026: Win by Two Clear Legs
Every MatchPlay contest must now be won by two clear legs.
In a best-of-nine match, for example, reaching five legs is not enough if the score is 5–4.
At 5–4, play continues. At 6–5, it continues again. The match ends only when one player establishes a two-leg advantage.
That means close matches can extend beyond the scheduled distance and puts even more pressure on players to close when the opportunity presents itself.
Players eliminated in the opening round will also be eligible for a free consolation bracket with cash prizes, giving everyone more darts even if their main-bracket run ends early.
The latest CTDO Order of Merit standings have also been released ahead of the event and will determine only the seeded positions in the draw.
