About this Event
The 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships will be held in Lagos, Nigeria from August 9–14, 2026, making history as the first time the tournament will take place in Africa. The championship is organized by the Nigeria Fencing Federation in partnership with the Commonwealth Fencing Federation and will feature Senior, Veteran, and U-23 categories across épée, foil, and sabre events.
The competition is expected to attract athletes from more than 24 Commonwealth nations, with countries such as England and Australia already preparing their squads for the event. The championship will include both individual and team competitions, alongside an international training camp ahead of the tournament.
Events are scheduled to take place at Rugby School Lagos in Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, which will serve as the main venue for the championship. Organizers have stated that preparations are focused on logistics, athlete welfare, venue readiness, medical services, and international partnerships to ensure a world-class event.
The championship is considered a major milestone for Nigerian and African fencing, following Nigeria’s successful hosting of other international fencing competitions in recent years. Beyond the sporting competition, the event is expected to boost sports tourism, strengthen fencing development across Africa, and showcase Nigeria’s capability to host major international sporting events.
