Practical Mineralogy for Metallurgists
Presented by XPS – Industry Relevant Solutions
This short course will review the main types of mineralogical analysis methods with a focus on general strengths, weaknesses, and the diagnostic questions each technique is best suited to answer.
Key mineralogical concepts governing metallurgical performance will be reviewed to support analytical method selection. Guidelines will be presented which help outline recommended combinations of analyses for the desired outcomes along with guidance on how to interpret key mineralogical data outputs for process diagnostics. General case studies will be provided to support the combination of diagnostic questions, mineralogical methods completed and diagnostic outcomes.
Mine Backfill Design & Operational Integration
Presented by Paterson & Cooke Canada Inc.
Overview of Paste Backfill System Design & Operation provides a practical introduction to the design, testing, operation, and management of paste backfill systems used in underground mining. Participants gain an understanding of backfill fundamentals, material characterization, dewatering, rheology, strength development, plant design, and underground distribution system requirements. The course also explores key engineering trade-offs, equipment selection, operational best practices, and quality control measures required to deliver a safe, reliable, and cost-effective backfill system. Real-world case studies and industry lessons learned are included to illustrate successful paste backfill implementation and operation.
