Welcome to the 2026 CAREGIVER SUMMIT!
Join us in Bismarck, at an in-person watch party near you, or online for an inspiring and informative day to support caregivers on their journey. Caregiving is demanding, and finding the right resources shouldn't be. The 2026 Caregiver Summit brings together national experts and North Dakota resources in one day, so you leave with practical tools and connections you can use right away, whether you're a family caregiver, a professional in the field, or supporting caregivers in your community.
Sessions include a keynote by Dr. Joseph Gaugler, a national policy update by Wendy Fox-Grage, talks by Dr. Donald Jurivich and Joan Danks, and an interactive Tai Chi demonstration by Kelly Costello. See the full agenda below.
Continuing education credits available: Board approval has been received for CE credits for Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Social Workers. Earn up to 6 contact hours with full attendance.
Register by August 14 at 5:00 p.m. so we can plan accurately for each site.
There are several ways to join the Summit this year:
- In person in Bismarck: all speakers and panelists will be there live. Bismarck is nearing capacity. If in-person space fills, we'll ask registrants to join virtually.
- Watch parties in Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Jamestown, and Minot: stream the live Bismarck Summit with a conference-room feel, no drive to Bismarck required
- Virtual: join from anywhere
A free ticket (RSVP) is required for every location, including virtual, so we can plan headcounts accurately.

Keynote Address: Navigating the Caregiving Career: Trajectories and Transition

Info: The long-term implications of providing help to someone with a chronic condition have led some to call caregiving a “career.” This presentation will consider the longitudinal aspects of caregiving to someone with a chronic condition over time, and to emphasize how key care transitions are both potential “stress” points but also opportunities for support for individuals living with chronic condition and those who help them.

Info: This session offers an opportunity to hear from the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP), which hosts the RAISE Act Family Caregiver Center. Attendees will gain an overview of the national caregiving landscape, hear about North Dakota’s participation in the state caregiving learning collaborative, and be introduced to a range of national and state resources available.
