Join us for an extraordinary occasion sharing our mission progress and celebrating the cumulative impact of Breakthrough T1D Illinois’ donors and volunteers over the past fiscal year.

Together, we have delivered on substantial projects and driven truly incredible research that is getting us closer to cures and is improving the lives of everyone impacted by type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Joining us will be Piotr Witkowski, M.D., Ph.D. with the University of Chicago School of Medicine. Dr. Witkowski is a transplant surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Chicago Medicine, where he directs the Pancreatic and Islet Transplant Program. A leader in diabetes research, his work focuses on advancing islet cell transplantation to improve glucose control and reduce or eliminate the need for insulin in people with type 1 diabetes.

Dr. Witkowski is a lead investigator in groundbreaking clinical trials, including Vertex’s stem cell–derived islet therapy (VX-880) and Eledon’s novel immunosuppressive approach (tegoprubart), both of which have shown promising early results. His work is helping move the field closer to a functional cure for T1D.
