2026 Balmain Regatta & Workboat Convoy

Join us for Balmain’s biggest day on the water: a celebration of sailing, working boats, community and 176 years of harbour heritage.
The Balmain Regatta is Australia’s oldest community regatta, first held in 1849, and today it’s our club’s annual fundraising event and a highlight of the Inner West calendar.
The day begins at 11:30am with the spectacular Workboat Convoy, featuring up to 60 vessels including the Svitzer tug, a water cannon display, tall ships, historic launches and modern working boats. At 12:00pm, the sailing races get underway, from historic skiffs to modern racing yachts, all starting with a real cannon blast.
On shore, the club hosts its famous Boats, Bands & BBQ party from 1:00pm, supported by our partners Svitzer and Cobden Hayson. Expect great food, cold drinks, live music from 1:30pm, and a buzzing Balmain crowd. The raffle will be drawn at 4:00pm.
Family friendly highlights 11-12 noon:
• Water cannon display
• Best viewing from Birchgrove foreshore and the club deck
• Sailing start line action right in front of the club
Adult friendly highlights:
• BBQ + bar from 1pm
• Live bands through the afternoon
• Pub Challenge crews racing club yachts
Everyone is welcome — sailors, families, locals, and working boat enthusiasts. Come celebrate Balmain’s maritime history and support your community sailing club.
RSVP, invite your mates, and follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates, behind the scenes content, and race day info.
