It is our pleasure to welcome you once again to the annual Archdiocese of Brisbane Reconciliation Dinner.
This year’s event also features the Launch of the Archdiocese of Brisbane 2026–2028 RAP by Archbishop Shane Mackinlay, marking an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.
We are honoured to host Aunty Denise Proud, who will share her powerful and personal story of truth, history and reconciliation drawn from a remarkable lifetime of leadership, education and advocacy.
Aunty Denise Proud is a proud Koa and Kuku‑Yalanji woman born and raised in Cherbourg on Wakka Wakka Country. Aunty Denise is a renowned educator, author and artist whose leadership in early childhood education began at just 16, when she became teacher‑in‑charge of Cherbourg’s first kindergarten during the Stolen Wages era.
With more than 20 years delivering cultural and educational programs in prisons and youth detention, Aunty Denise brings deep wisdom, compassion and cultural integrity to her work. She serves on the Board of Reconciliation Queensland and holds honorary fellowships at USC and UQ.
Her outstanding contributions have been recognised through major honours, including the Excellence in Educational Leadership Award, the Barbara Creaser Award, an Honorary Doctorate from QUT (2024) and an Honorary Professorship from UQ (2025).
Join us as Aunty Denise Proud shares her powerful story and insights at this year’s Reconciliation Dinner.
We welcome you to gather, connect, learn and recognise the rich gifts and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the Archdiocese. Enjoy First Nations stalls, cultural performances and live entertainment as we share an evening of culture, storytelling and shared purpose.
