Join us for the annual Dawe Lecture featuring Erik Braun (PhD, Harvard University), associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia. Dr. Braun will present "Mindfulness with a Zen Attitude: The American Formation of a Secular-Spiritual Practice," exploring how American hippies, seekers, and scientists fused Burmese vipassanā meditation with Zen thought to create modern mindfulness. This engaging lecture examines the formative period from the late 1970s to early 2000s and considers the complex effects this practice has had on modern spirituality.Date/Time: March 12, 2026, 6pm EST
