About this Event
May is Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) National Heritage Month. To honor their contributions to Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Historical Society will host “AANHPI Collective History Day” in partnership with the Asian Festival by the Asia Society of Oklahoma (ASO).
This event will take place at the Oklahoma History Center on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring historical recognitions, traditional and modern art performances, educational cultural booths, and the crowning of the next ASO royalty representatives.
♦ Daniel Pae, Hui Cha Poos, Amy Le, Tanathat Tasanacharoenkit, Farnaz Nazar, and Marcus Smith will be the event’s emcees.
♦ A special tribute to Dr. Yoshi Sasaki (Posthumously), Michael Korenblit, Ronnie K. Irani, and Thuan "Toon" Nguyen.
♦ Arts performances presented by Share and Grow Chinese Dragon, Burmese, and Polynesian Dancers will complement the ASO pageant talent show.
♦ ASO educational cultural booths by the India Association of Oklahoma, Indonesian American Association of Oklahoma, Iranian American Cultural Society of Oklahoma, Korean Association of Oklahoma, Malaysian Association of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Chinese Association, Philippine-American Civic Organization of Oklahoma, Taiwanese Association of Oklahoma, and Vietnamese American Heritage Community of Oklahoma.
The following groups helped organize and put on the event: Asia Society of Oklahoma, Asian District Cultural Association, India Association of Oklahoma, JASO, KAPWA, PACO, Share & Grow Association, The Greater Oklahoma City Asian Chamber of Commerce, Vietnamese American Heritage Community of Oklahoma, HOPE Philippines, Quill Hawk Publishing, Hilda de Leon, Blair Summers, and other community members.
Admission to “AANHPI Collective History Day” is free. Attendees may visit the Oklahoma History Center Museum galleries on the day of the event with a special group rate admission. Food trucks in the parking lot will offer authentic cuisine for purchase from Oh My Gogi! BBQ, Mob Thaid, and Jeepney Express.
