This may be the last "official" reunion of the Alpha Troop Association, unless we can enlist younger A/2/17 alumni to pick up the baton and keep the tradition alive.Our reunion has been scheduled to coincide with the deactivation of the 2/17 Cav, 101st Airborne, Armed Forces Day and the start of the "Week of Eagles". On May 15th, we plan to participate in the "Casing of Colors" ceremony by bringing in ground vehicles (used by Alpha Troop when they first deployed to Vietnam) and subsequent helicopters once we converted to an "Air" Cav Unit. The plan is to display the OH-6 Cayuse, UH-1 Huey, AH-1 Cobra and OH-58 Kiowa. Hopefully the active Unit will supply a UH-60 Blackhawk and AH-64 Apache to round out a "walk thru history". We are calling this the "Gathering of Eagles".
After the ceremony on Friday the vehicles and helicopters are expected to relocate to Outlaw Field (Clarksville Regional Airport). The vehicles, OH-6 & OH-58 should be available as static displays for active-duty Troopers, veterans and general public to view throughout the weekend (free of charge), to honor the 2/17's service. The Huey and Cobra plan on being available for rides (for a fee). The reunion itself will be housed in the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel.
