2025 Volunteer Appreciation Potluck Picnic

It’s time to take a break from trail work and just relax and share a pleasant evening with friends. Please join us for our annual volunteer appreciation potluck picnic at Pike Lake. We would especially like to see and thank in person our many volunteers who keep the Washington County Ice Age Trail segments in top condition. (63 volunteers and over 4600 volunteer hours in 2024!)
We will offer an optional short hike at 5:00 pm, see the details below. After the hike at about 5:30 pm, guests Amy Lord and Melissa Pierick from the Ice Age Trail Alliance will have a short presentation on the topic of "Promoting The Ice Age Trail At The Chapter Level". Then we will start eating and socializing.
This year the Chapter will provide brats and cold drinks!
Bring a dish to pass such as a side salad, appetizer, or dessert.
The chapter will provide water and a selection of cold soda and beer. But if you want something specific to drink, you can bring your own beverages (adult beverages are OK).
Plates, napkins, eating utensils, condiments, etc. will also be provided.
If brats are not your thing, bring your own meat or meat alternative for the grill.
RSVP: Please RSVP by Sunday, August 10th to the chapter email ([email protected]) with the number of people attending and the number of brats you plan to consume so we have a rough count to ensure we have enough for all.
LOCATION: Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Hartford. We will be at the south picnic shelter near the beach. Click here for driving directions. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs. A Wisconsin state park sticker is required when parking at the Pike Lake beach.
WHAT TO BRING: A dish to pass and a camp chair. If hiking, bring insect repellant.
HIKE: We will work up an appetite by taking a short hike at 5:00 pm while the brats are being grilled. The hike route will head north on the brown trail then return along the lakeshore on the boardwalk / accessible trail (we can check out the recently replaced boardwalk). If time permits, we will make a short loop south on the red trail / IAT. Mosquitos may be an issue so bring insect repellant.
NOTE: You don’t have to be a member of the Ice Age Trail Alliance or a chapter volunteer to attend this picnic. This would be a great opportunity to learn about the organization and decide if you would like to get involved. Everyone is welcome.
