We are honored to announce that the Portage County Historical Society has been awarded the 2025 Reuben Gold Thwaites Trophy by the Wisconsin Historical Society.This is the highest award a local historical organization can receive in Wisconsin, recognizing excellence in preservation, programming, education, and community impact.
We will officially receive the trophy on Wednesday, September 24 at 6:30 PM at Heritage Park in Plover, inside the historic Old Plover Methodist Church. Registration will be required to attend the ceremony. There is no cost to attend.
This achievement reflects years of hard work — not only by our current staff and board, but also by the many volunteers who built and sustained this organization over generations. Since hiring our first staff member in 2021, PCHS has grown in exciting new ways, and this recognition affirms the direction we’re heading.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our mission. We are proud of this honor and excited to celebrate it with our community.
