2025 PGR Data Analytics & Quantitative Methods Conference

You are warmly invited to the inaugural PGR Data Analytics & Quantitative Methods Conference, an innovative and engaging forum designed to expand our collective understanding of quantitative methods and strengthen our research community.

Our annual training sessions have traditionally focused on a series of specific methods that, in collaboration with your supervisors, we identify as a priority. However, we are aware of a much wider range of methods that you are covering in your thesis, which goes far beyond those covered through our White Rose sponsored training sessions. We would, therefore, want to draw from your unique expertise in the data analytics or quantitative methods that you are using (or you have designed to use in your proposal) so you can share them with your colleagues, and in doing so enhance our methods toolkit by exposing yourselves to the wide range of methods used that each of you are using.

Presentation guidelines:

Duration: Expect each presentation to last between five to ten minutes.

Format: Presentations should be relatively informal, e.g. the use of slides is optional. They should cover the key parts of your research, i.e. theory, methods, data, results (where present), but should particularly emphasise the specifics of the methods used.

To prepare, you can consider the following questions:

What data collection and analysis methods are you using?

What is your research question, and how do these methods help answer it?

What advantages do they offer over traditional methods?

In addition to presenting, you will be encouraged to participate in collaborative sessions aimed at networking, brainstorming future research possibilities, and discussing potential training topics. We will enjoy these activities in our flagship venue, conveniently located in front of Leeds train station, and experience some of the best offerings of our university cuisine.

Outcomes:

Students will be exposed to a wide range of methods used by their peers, enhancing their understanding of the diversity of data analytics and quantitative methods that could be used to explore different research questions. In addition, this event will contribute to strengthening a sense of belonging and community amongst our PGR students, and potentially lead to research collaborations between them.
