The Legendary Godfather of Jiu-Jitsu in the Southwest, Master Carlos Machado is bringing a Jiu-Jitsu tournament to Dallas, Texas.

  4. We highly encourage a minimum of two uniforms per style (Gi and No Gi) in case one of them fails inspection and or gets damaged and you need to change into another to continue. If you are not able to change into a uniform that follows our guidelines, you will be disqualified.

Tournament Rules:

Kids specific type rules:

4-7 year olds no subs, points the whole match. Top of the mountain points, secure mount or back for 20 seconds, top person gets 2 points and reset back on their feet.

8+ No leg locks or wristlocks. Banana split style submissions are legal. Triangle they can pull head if arm is across the face and a legitimate triangle is in place. Teepee choke is okay without pulling the head, hands can be locked behind legs.

No reaping for kids are allowed, if a case of reaping occurs it will be immediately stopped and reset as per the reaping guidelines:

Accidental stagnant reaping- pause action, Penalize reaper, move foot out of reap and restart action in same position.

Active reap-This is when there is movement and has to be stopped during action therefore cannot be paused and reset in the same place. Therefore stop action, penalize reaper and restart in a standing position.

Submission reaping- If the reap happens in the act of a submission where ref does not have time to stop the submission before the opponent taps then this will result in a disqualification. This should be rare in kids divisions since there are no leg attacks.

General rules:

All positions have to be secured for a 3 count by the ref before being awarded.

Takedown- if anyone initiates a takedown sequence whoever secures top position will be rewarded 2 points.

Guard pull- to have a guard pull you must have at least 1 solid grip on the opponent and the hips have to be moving towards the mat before a takedown is initiated by the opponent. A guard pull without a grip will be penalized and stood back up. A strong grip means if you lose the grip on the way down without opponent forcing the break it is not a solid grip.

Sweeps/Reversals- Anytime a competitor goes from the bottom position to the top position they will be rewarded 2 points. No guard is required to be awarded the points.

Passing guard- To pass guard you must secure a pass fully past the Knees of the bottom opponent, if they are still actively using legs to control an arm or have a knee inside of the ribs/stomach it is not a pass. Passing is worth 3 points.

Knee on belly- 2 points, must have one knee on the persons front torso and other foot posted. No points will be awarded if there is a knee on the mat.

Mount- 4 points, both knees below the arms and legs free from the legs stradling the bottom competitor. Knees do not have to be on the mat, S mount counts as Mount positon and gets points.

Back control- 4 points, back control means both feet/hooks inside of the legs(hip bones) or a full body triangle is locked in with free foot on the outside of the opponent.

Back mount- 4 points, back mount happens when the opponent is belly down on the mat, they need to have stomach and or chest on the mat to count as belly down, and competitors knees are both on the outside of the opponent's body. Feet can be hooked in front or behind legs, or they can be free.

Penalties- 1st-warning 2nd-2pts 3rd-2pts 4th-Disqualifications. This goes for all penalties including but not limited to: stalling, grabbing clothing in no gi, improper grip in gi, reaping, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct- If the conduct is deemed minor during the match it will be on the penalty progression. If a coach or competitor is deemed to have excessive unsportsmanlike conduct then the ref can disqualify the competitor immediately. If a coach or spectator is found to have unsportsmanlike conduct they may be warned by Head officials if it is minor or if it is decided to be worthy of it we will ask the coach/spectator to leave the tournament.

-Our staff is required to show respect and customer service to all competitors, coaches and spectators but we will not allow our staff to be harassed. Harassing our staff in any form will be addressed and the person or persons may be asked to leave without refund.

Adult specific Rules:

16 years and older- All levels have wristlocks and straight ankle locks. All levels can do leg spread submissions as in banana split and crotch ripper. No neck crank submissions.

Reaping:

-No reaping in Gi for any level

-Purple belt NO GI reaping is allowed

Reaping penalties:

Accidental stagnant reaping- pause action, Penalize reaper, move foot out of reap and restart action in same position.

Active reap-This is when there is movement and has to be stopped during action therefore cannot be paused and reset in the same place. Therefore stop action, penalize reaper and restart in a standing position.

Submission reaping- If the reap happens in the act of a submission where ref does not have time to stop the submission before the opponent taps then this will result in a disqualification. This should be rare in kids divisions since there is no leg attacks.

Purple belt and above Leg attacks allowed in Gi and No Gi:

Knee bar

Toe hold

Estima

Aoki

Slicers

Purple belts and above are allowed to reap and heel hook in No Gi only.

Match times:

4-7 year olds 3 minute match, white belts all points no subs

8-15 year olds 4 minute match, first 2 minutes is sub only. Last 2 minutes has points

16 years and older 5 minute match, first 3 minutes is sub only. Last 2 minutes has points

When points start, no points for position they are in. must move into position to get points.

Penalties during entire match

Advantages- an advantage can be given for a strong submission attempt. This is a submission that is on its last step of finishing and the person escapes. Partial submissions will not be awarded advantages. These can be awarded during the whole match, advantages only effect the match if it goes to a tie at the end of regulation. Penalties and Advantages can offset. Think of advantages as +1 and penalties as -1 if the match goes to a tie after regulation.

Overtime- If the match ends in a tie at the end of regulation and there are no advantages or penalties then there will be a 1 minute overtime period. This will start on the feet and first to score wins the match.

Ref Decision- If at the end of overtime there is no score by either competitor during the overtime period then it will go to a referee decision which will be looked at by this criteria: Submission attempts, near points, aggression or majority top time.

Extra:

We are allowing muffler choke for all ages with subs, no pinching the nose.

Ref hand signals- make clearer, hit leg for counting. Calling out points verbally also.

Takedown or sweep has to be on top position. If you roll to take the back before the count then no points for takedown or sweep.

Back control- hand position does not matter. Just both hooks in or body triangle, body triangle must be fully locked in to count.

Referee etiquette and how to move around the match. Try not to block coaches or table workers for possible issues of needing their opinion on what they saw to help the match or to make clear why something was called the way it was.

Challenge bags- May challenge a refs call and get a head ref to come look or hear about the issue and decide on the proper call. 2 failed challenges will make the challenge bag no longer available to that coach.

Reset position from out of bounds, if possible we will reset position that went out of bounds back in the middle. No submission will be reset. If a submission is legally defended and goes out of bounds, the competitor with the submission will get 2 points and restart standing.

Weigh-Ins
  1. Early weigh-ins will be available at the academy Friday August 15th 5pm-8pm.
  2. Competitors can also weigh-in when they check-in.
  3. Gi is NOT required to weigh-in.
  4. ZERO WEIGHT ALLOWANCE
