In late June 2024, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a fishing company in a case concerning agency fees for fishing boats. This decision overturned a 40-year precedent known as Chevron deference. While this change may seem minor, it could have dramatic consequences and opportunities for multiple industries. Previously, regulations passed by our legislative branch of the Federal government were subject to interpretation by regulatory agencies when regulations were vague or unclear. Now, this responsibility has been returned to the Judicial branch of the Federal government.

The consequences to the Biotech and Pharmaceutical industry could be significant. Executive branch guidance documents that previously dictated industry behavior toward Quality are now potentially non-binding. This decision also holds implications for all other industries outside of Biotech and Pharmaceuticals that are subject to regulatory enforcement.

Nathan Richmond, is a Quality Control professional who has been in industry for 20 years. After 4 years of performing manufacturing in Immnodiagnostics, he transitioned to Quality Control in 2010 when he joined Dendreon, which had developed the world’s fist commercial level cell-based immunotherapy, an autologous or self-derived medicine for Prostate Cancer.

Following his time at Dendreon, he has served in various management roles in Quality Control including Kite Pharma, Atara Biotherapeutics, Capricor Therapeutics, ImmunityBio, and Theragent.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children entertaining friends with his music. He is a classically trained pianist and folk/rock guitarist. A keen student of history, he is interested in the overlap between history and current industry practices

Chuck is a Six Sigma Green Belt that brings over 35 years of Safety and Health Management experience in manufacturing of all types, logistics, service, transportation, hospitality, healthcare, steel smelting, power generation (coal, gas, and wind) as well as heavy commercial and residential construction nationwide.

Recent positions include Sr. Safety Management Consultant for a national worker’s compensation carrier, Director of Loss Control for a national insurance brokerage and Site Safety and Health Director for a $1.5 billion semiconductor facility construction project.

Chuck had the pleasure of assisting three Fortune 50 corporations and a multitude of other well-known companies in developing high performing Safety and Health Programs designed to drive down losses while fostering teamwork, building employee morale and leadership enhancements. His experience servicing a wide range of clients has allowed him to develop strategic approaches that work for each organization
