2025 IPVA (Intimate Partner Violence Advocate) Certification Series

IPVA is one of APFC's many successful initiatives that has been operating since 2009; this five-part program is valuable to anyone who provides advocacy and support to families through social services, schools, the healthcare system, or the criminal justice system. Even business leaders will find IPVA valuable as one in four women is a victim of domestic violence, so it is likely that a colleague or employee will need support.

You can register for all five classes or you can take classes individually if you have some background on the issue.

IPVA attendees walk away with practical tools and information on how to safely and effectively approach, support, and empower victims. Even if you have received training on domestic violence, you will walk away from IPVA having learned something new. Since its inception, 100% of our 359 attendees reported recommending the series to colleagues (per a confidential survey). PROFESSIONAL CREDITS

Anyone: 4 DVS (Domestic Violence Specialist) credits are awarded for EACH IPVA class; credits authorized by the NJ Coalition to End Domestic Violence (NJCEDV) (not currently available).

About the speaker

Allison Bressler, Co-Founder/Co-Director of A Partnership For Change, holds a Master's degree in Counseling and Human Development and has worked with victims of abuse since 1999. Her article on domestic violence in affluent communities was published by Scientific American Mind magazine, and she has been interviewed on ABC's World News Tonight & ABC News Radio as an expert in the field.

Ms. Bressler began her career in the field as the Director of Non-Residential Services for Hope's Door (formerly The Northern Westchester Shelter) where, she expanded the agency's counseling and community education programs, appeared on local radio and TV programs, and directed Westchester County's premier annual teen dating abuse symposium. She moved to The Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation as the Director of Programs where she played a pivotal role in developing and implementing their strongest initiatives.

Later, she was the Director of the Non-Residential Counseling program at the YWCA of Union County where she also supervised the Union County Domestic Violence Response Teams (DVRTs). In 2007, she co-founded A Partnership for Change with Gloria Sgrizzi to fill the gap in the availability of domestic violence education, awareness and prevention programs in New Jersey.

Ms. Bressler maintains a small private practice working with victims of domestic violence in Bergen County, NJ, and is approved as an expert witness in Bergen, Union, Somerset, Middlesex, and Essex counties. Throughout her career, she has counseled, advocated for and provided crisis intervention to thousands of survivors. Her passion for empowering individuals and her knowledge of domestic violence has made her a sought-after speaker at many venues in New York and New Jersey and has allowed her to inspire thousands to play a role in breaking the cycle of violence.
