Summit Overview: Advancing the Disability-Led Independent Living Movement
Objective:
To enhance the capacity of Independent Living Programs, ensuring that individuals with disabilities have the resources and support they need to live fulfilling and autonomous lives within their communities.
Key Areas of Focus:
✅ Understanding the Importance of Independent Living
Highlight the vital role independent living plays in promoting human and civil rights for people with disabilities.
Discuss the barriers that prevent individuals from accessing necessary services and supports.
✅Navigating and Accessing Services
Information Sessions: Provide families with essential information regarding Medicaid LTSS and HCBS options.
Support Systems: Explain how to navigate waiting lists and access community resources effectively.
✅Identifying Gaps and Developing Programs
Program Development:
Analyze existing gaps in services to create tailored programs that address unmet needs.
Foster the creation of comprehensive support systems that encourage independence.
✅Community Engagement and Participation
Foster relationships within the community that promote trust and open dialogues about individual needs.
Encourage community members to voice their needs, contributing to the shaping of effective services.
✅Improving Quality of Life
Discuss strategies to enhance the overall well-being of individuals with disabilities, focusing on empowerment and community inclusion.
