2025 Church & Ministry Seminar

Please join us for our annual church and ministry seminar sponsored by Monica J. Stern, CPA, PLLC and the Church and Ministry Law Group of Schmitt Schneck Even & Williams, PC.

We are grateful to Paradise Valley United Methodist Church for hosting and live streaming the event again this year.

Monica Stern, Certified Public Accountant, will present topics important to churches and ministries:

• Updated information on the "One Big Beautiful Bill" and its effect on donors, employees and employers;
• Why your church may need to file form 720;
• DOL and contractors;
• War stories - Church fraud and how to prevent it;
• How to read a 990 before you support another organization;
• Other topics of importance to churches and ministries.

J ulie Froke, IRS Enrolled Agent, will present:

• All the Queen's Horses - a story of trust as an internal control

Kevin Norton, CPCU, will present:

• Insurance coverage you didn't know you needed

Additional topics will be added and are subject to change based on current activities in the tax and business world. We are happy to cover any accounting or tax topic related to churches and other nonprofit organizations.

Attorney Robert Erven Brown, head of the Church & Ministry Law Group at Schmitt Schneck Even & Williams, PC will be joining us again this year, as will nonprofit tax attorney Jon Ruybalid and attorney Lacy Cooper.

The attorneys will present an update on important recent cases affecting churches and ministries:

• What is de-banking and why should you care?;
• Update on Churches' ability to participate in political campaigns ;
• Practical take-aways in preventing and responding to abuse of vulnerable persons; and
• A checklist for auditing the process of taking, retaining & destroying minutes of board meetings;

Ticket information:

Unlimited number for the live stream of the event:

· There is no charge for this ticket.

· The login information and the seminar information will be emailed to you the day before.

We will also post the handouts on our website www. mjsterncpa.com. The login information will be inside the pdf too. Please do not wait to register as we will not be able to respond to you during the event.

· Online tickets are available for your group, however, please register each person individually.

· Or, if you prefer, you may email the registrant names to [email protected].

There will be a limited number of seats for the live presentation.

· A live, in-person ticket cost is $12. This is to help prevent no-shows and avoid excess food waste. We pay all ticket fees.

· A light breakfast as well as coffee and tea will be served to those attending. The Perk coffee shop will also be open.

· We will have 10 or so vendor booths at the event. Bring your business card for door prizes.
