African American mental health will be the focus of the AAMH Symposium on Thursday, May 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Western Michigan University College of Health and Human Services. Breaking the Stigma: African American Mental Health Symposium’s theme this year is “Reclaiming Black Wellness.” It is sponsored by Valarie Cunningham, The Synergy Health Center, and Western Michigan University College of Health and Human Services.
The AAMH Symposium will bring more than 10 respected presenters of African American Mental Health together for teaching and training with far-reaching implications. "We are excited to host this dynamic forum for thought leaders in holistic wellness," remarks Valarie Cunningham, founder and CEO of The Synergy Health Center. "Our speakers, encompassing mental health professionals, wellness practitioners, and futurists, are exploring innovative approaches to supporting Black families in achieving comprehensive well-being. As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, this symposium is essential for us to envision and cultivate a future where Black wellness is prioritized and accessible in all its dimensions."
The Symposium is designed to launch conversations around African American mental health in the greater Kalamazoo Community as well as nationally.
