2024 STEP OUT DIABETES WALK

Join the Los Angeles County African American Employee Association's 2024 American Diabetes StepOut to Walk team. We have 55 days until walk day on October 26, 2024.

Let's get our minds, bodies, and spirits ready, and we encourage you to help us meet our donation goal of $2000. So far, we have raised $350. LACAAEA- African American Employees - Fundraising For American Diabetes Association (donordrive.com).

We are confident we can do this. So, please do the following:

1. Donate to yourself through our webpage to meet your fundraising goal.
2. Ask a friend to donate on your behalf.
3. Ask a family member to donate on your behalf.
4. Ask your colleagues who you always purchase Double Good popcorn from for their kids' schools to donate.
5. Ask someone you want to spend more time with to join our team on the walk and donate.

Remember, on October 26, 2024, at Rainbow Lagoon, we will walk to fight for a cure, educate, and eliminate diabetes disparities. If you need help, please don't hesitate to let me know. I am here to help.

We know you are committed, and the following stats help us understand why our fundraising efforts are so important:

• In 2021, 38.4 million Americans, or 11.6% of the population, had diabetes. 2 million Americans have type 1 diabetes, including about 304,000 children and adolescents

• Diagnosed and undiagnosed: Of the 38.4 million adults with diabetes, 29.7 million were diagnosed, and 8.7 million were undiagnosed.

• Prevalence in seniors: The percentage of Americans age 65 and older remains high, at 29.2%, or 16.5 million seniors (diagnosed and undiagnosed).

• New cases: 1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year.

• Prediabetes: In 2021, 97.6 million Americans age 18 and older had prediabetes.
• About 352,000 Americans under age 20 are estimated to have been diagnosed with diabetes, approximately 0.35% of that population.

• In 2017–2018, the CDC estimated the annual incidence of diagnosed diabetes in youth at 18,200 with type 1 diabetes and 5,300 with type 2 diabetes.

The rates of diagnosed diabetes in adults by race/ethnic background are:

• 13.6% of American Indians/Alaskan Native adults

• 12.1% of non-Hispanic Black adults

• 11.7% of Hispanic adults

• 9.1% of Asian American adults

• 6.9% of non-Hispanic White adults
